  • Arrange a visit as soon as possible.  The college holds regular open days and coffee mornings for prospective parents / carers and students.  Arrange to come along to one of these and find out more about us!  If you cant make one of these events, arrange an individual visit or ask your school/college or Connexions advisor to help you.  Complete an application form at this stage, even if you are considering several options.  This ensures that we know you are interested and we can make an initial visit to your current placement to see if we could meet your needs

  • Request the John Dewey ISC at your EHCP review meeting.    You can name the John Dewey ISC as your preferred post-16 or post-19 placement at your EHCP review meetings, at any time.  We would recommend that you have visited the College before you name us in your plan to ensure that we are able to meet your needs.  Make sure you tell the person coordinating your EHCP that you would like to continue your education, even if you dont know where you would like to attend next.  If you do not make your wishes clear, it may delay your application to your future college.  Complete our application form as early as you can.

  • Send us any paperwork we ask for.    Once we have visited you in your current school, college or placement, we will ask for some supporting placement.  This helps us to provide an accurate placement costing to your local authority as well as checking we can meet all of your needs.

  • Getting a decision.  We will write to you to tell you if we are offering you a place, subject to funding.  This will usually be within 8 - 10 weeks of receiving your application form.  We will then apply for funding from your local authority, which may take a further 12 weeks to be agreed.  if your funding is not agreed, we will help you to appeal.

  • Transition into College.  Once you have an offer of a place, we will set up some transition visits for you to come along and get to know us.  Ideally, we like to have at least 6 transition visits so that you can be confident you have chosen the correct place.
